On
Sunday afternoon began the second half of
the VMSL season. A rematch of the first
game of the season saw PCOV A take on a
revamped Aryana team. PCOV came out with
all intentions of winning the game; and were
able to go up on the score board when Marco
was able to net his for his third
consecutive game. PCOV dominated most of
the first half and were very unfortunately
not to have netted a few more. The second
half featured much of the same with PCOV
looking for that elusive insurance goal and
it came mid-way through the second half
through defender Ryan. The game ended with
PCOV downing Aryana 2-0 and increasing their
winning streak to 4 games.

PCOV “A” are
marginally defeated by league
leaders Yaletown
In a late
Saturday game PCOV “A” traveled to
Point Grey Turf for a battle with
rivals and division leaders Yaletown
FC. PCOV “A” took to the field with
confidence and began to control the
game. However against the play of
the game Yaletown FC was able to
take an early game lead when a weak
shoot from outside the 18yard box
eluded PCOV’s keeper. A few minutes
later; as a result of a free kick
outside of the 18yard box Yaletown
went up by the score of 2-0. PCOV
looked a bit dazed and confused and
before long so themselves down even
further when Yaletown was able to go
up 3-0. Before half PCOV was able to
get a goal through Marco Benitesso.
The half came with PCOV down by
3-1. The second half was a
different tale; PCOV entered the
game determined to change the score
line; and was able to get another
goal back when Marco Benitesso
netted his second goal of the
match. PCOV grew with confidence
and began to carry the play; however
were unable to change the score
line. At the end of the game PCOV
was looking at a big mountain to
climb. PCOV’s next game is on

PCOV “A” smack C-Lets
This weekend’s harsh weather did not
keep PCOV men’s team from taking the
field on a Sunday afternoon game.
Under adverse conditions both teams
took the field; PCOV under must win
circumstances began taking the game
to the C-Lets. PCOV dominated most
of the first half; C-Lets did little
to resist PCOV’s constant pressure;
had it not been for the field
conditions and poor finishing by
PCOV the C-Lets could found
themselves in a whole lot of
trouble. However PCOV did not take
the foot of the gas, and mid-way
through the first half Ian Robinson
tallied the first goal for PCOV. The
game went to half-time with PCOV up
1-0; but deserving a lot more. The
second half featured much of the
same with PCOV taking control of the
game and the C-Lets offering little
resistance. A few minutes into the
second half Marco put PCOV up by two
goals when he put a nice shot passed
a scrolling C-Let keeper. PCOV went
up 3-0 when Manuel pressure the
C-Lets defense into making a
mistake; on semi-break he put the
ball in the back of the net. PCOV
continued to attack and through
substituted Gil were able to add to
more goals for a five nil victory.
PCOV’s keeper Colin Grier was able
to get his first clean sheet of the
season. PCOV’s next game will be
away at Point Grey against division
leaders Yalletown on Saturday
October 6th 2007.

PCOV Teams get back to wining ways
PCOV teams got back in wining ways
this weekend. It began on Friday
night when the PCOV ladies took on
the Celtics in Richmond. PCOV took
the field with all intentions of
wining this game and began to
pressure the opponent. Both team had
a number of chances to go up on the
score board but poor finishing on
both sides saw the first half tied a
nil. In the second half PCOV was
determined to win; and that they did
when Latizia finished a nice trough
ball form Erica. The game ended 1-0
for PCOV which carried our Ladies to
the top to the table with 7pts.
In other news the Master’s teams
also were in action this week. PCOV
“A” in tough against long time
rivals Firefighters at Hastings Bowl
on Sunday. PCOV “A:” were able to
get an important win as they beat
their rivals 4-2. In other action on
Sunday afternoon the Lusitanos
downed KLM Alemania FC at Kensington
Park. Not all was good for PCOV
teams as the PCOV “B” team were
handed an 8-0 defeat at the hands of
Roma FC at David Lam Park.

PCOV went out to Ladner onFriday
night for a game against Ranger’s
FC. The game began the worst
possible way for PCOV when 30seconds
into the game PCOV went down 1-0,
when a breakdown in PCOV defense
lead to Ranger’s taking advantage
and putting a goal pass a helpless
Colin Grier. With the early goal
Ranger’s FC gained confidence and
began to attack PCOV the PCOV back
four and created a number of
chances. It could have been worst
for PCOV had their keeper not saved
the day in a number of occasions.
Not all was bad for PCOV; as we too
created a number of chances on the
counterattack only to be discarded
by our attacking dual of Marco and
Gil. FC continued to control the
game; and against the flow of the
game was able to up the score 2-0.
Half time arrived with PCOV down 2-0
on a must win game. The second half
saw PCOV attack the Rangers right
from the get go. Tino brought in
Gurgit and Martin to strengthen the
attack and PCOV began to push back a
tired Rangers FC. Unfortunately for
PCOV we were not able to turn the
score and lost a tough game by the
score of 2-0.
PCOV’s next game will be against the
C-Lets at home on Sunday at 2pm.

Trouble continues for PCOV teams
A weekend full of soccer action saw
PCOV teams struggle. In the Master’s
Premier division PCOV A was narrowly
defeated by ICSF Inter at Burnaby
Lake. Both teams fought hard the
whole 90minutes at the end Inter won
by the score of 1-0. In the Masters
first division PCOV Lusitanos also
lost by the thinnest of margins.
They went down 2-1 to SFU Royals at
Queens Park. In third division PCOV
“B” was in taught against New West
Reds, however they were able to pull
out a victory.
In other news our PCOV girls were in
action against Semiahoo Spirit in
White Rock; the PCOV girls came out
flying and took a 2-0 lead. The PCOV
girls controlled most of the game
and came out with a well earned win.
Good job girls.

PCOV was in tough against NK Hrvat
on Sunday afternoon. PCOV dominated
the first 40 minutes of the game;
missing a couple glorious chances to
go up in the score board. Mid-away
through the first half Jesse Arnett
slandered away semi-open net; just a
few minutes later Ian Robinson
missed a glorious opportunity to put
PCOV in the lead. The first half
ended with both teams tied at nil.
For the second half PCOV’s bench
boss was force to make changes due
to an injury to Nelson Dias(ankle);
Adriano Badaraco was brought in to
give some speed to the flanks; the
change almost paid dividends when he
headed a cross from Steve Spillos
just to see Hrvat’s goal keeper make
a wonderful save. About 20 minutes
into the second half Hrvat’s team
began to gain control of the game;
and was not for Colin Grier” s
acrobatic save PCOV would be down by
a goal. A few minutes later PCOV
paid the price with an own goal
through a scramble in front of the
PCOV net. Following the goal PCOV
went on the attack and although able
to create some opportunities the end
result was a 1-0 defeat. PCOV will
now play FC Rangers at Holy Turf in
Ladner Friday September the 21st
at 9pm.

PCOV Teams go down in flames
After a positive start the week
before; all PCOV men’s team suffered
defeats this weekend. In the
Master’s Div, PCOV Lusitanos were
in tough against Vancouver United;
and ultimately were at the wrong
side of a 2-0 score at Kensington
Park; In the Masters Premier
division PCOV “A” were at the wrong
end of a 6-1 spanking at the hands
of the Columbus FC at Riverway Park
on Sunday. The Masters Div3 PCOV “B”
did not fare much better; they too
were defeated by Surrey Dynamo at
Queens Park on Sunday afternoon. Not
all bad news for PCOV teams; the
PCOV girls were able to wrestle away
a win form Burnaby Canadians. The
game was well played by both teams;
although PCOV seemed to have the
edge it was the Canadians that drew
first blood halfway through the
first half. The PCOV girls remained
determined to turn the game around
and trough Latzia was able to find
an equalizer close to half time. The
second half saw the PCOV girls take
control of the game but unable to
finalize their chances. The game
ended in a draw; not the result the
PCOV girls wanted, but given that
this was the first game after a
number of off-season changes it is a
result the girls should be proud of.

PCOV was in tough against a revamped
Aryana team on Saturday afternoon.
PCOV went up 1-0 on a goal that
resulted from a scramble in front of
the net; Jesse Arnett took advantage
of a poor clearance by Aryana’s
defense and scored the first goal of
the new season. Aryana came right
back and through a penalty shoot was
able to equalize the match. This
penalty seemed to deflate PCOV and
Aryana capitalized on a bad
clearance by PCOV’s defense and went
up 2-1. However, PCOV began to take
control of the game and through
Marco Benitesso got the equalizer
before half-time. The second half
began with PCOV chasing the victory
goal. Man of the match Marco
Benitesso came to PCOV’s rescue when
midway through the second-half he
scored his second goal to put PCOV
up 3-2. PCOV continued to attack a
defenseless Aryana team and could
have gone up when Ian Robinson
missed a glorious opportunity when
he sent a shoot flying over the
unguarded Aryana net. PCOV will
look for its second consecutive win
on Sunday September 16th
at home (Beaconsfield Park) at 2pm
against relegated HK Harvat.
